So, this is my last post for Listen.com. I figured I'd wrap this up with that staple of the nerdy music journalist: the year end list!
So here's my 10 favorite 2008 albums by local artists (with one caveat: it was a pretty piss-poor for local releases).
Apache -- Boomtown Gems (Birdman) - Deliriously catchy garage-glam.
The Dodos - Visiter (Frenchkiss) - Hard to categorize indie-rock that's inspired by both folk and metal.
Wallpaper - T Rex (Eenie Meanie) - Goofy vocoder R&B.
Vetiver - Thing of the Past (Gnomonsong) - Covers that make this hairy folk band what it is.
Raphael Saadiq - The Way I See It (Columbia) - Best recreation of Motown soul yet.
Bart Davenport - Palaces (Antenna Farm) - More sweet soft-rock and soul from a Bay icon.
Goh Nakamura - Ulysses (self-released) - Elvis Costello meets Marti Jones in the Mission.
The Mighty Underdogs - Droppin' Science Fiction (Definitive Jux) - Semi-super (rap) group.
Megapuss - Surfing (Vapor) - Devendra's tossed off tunes are better than most folks thoughtfully composed crap. (Too bad he doesn't live here anymore.)
V/A - You Got Yours! East Bay Garage 1965-67 (Big Beat) - Freaking great punk from the garages of the Beast.
