There aren't a lot of good local blogs about
Sure, the SF Weekly and the Bay Guardian have their blogs, and local sites like Deli SF and the Bay Bridged cover the scene well, but they're all larger entities. Where are the college kids or 20somethings who've realized they can score free CDs and tickets to shows by posting their dumb opinions and a few links to MP3s? Or the nerdy obsessives who figure they might actually get a girl to talk to them if they can boast to running their own website?
Maybe the problem is that everyone in the Bay Area is already on BitTorrent and doesn't have to beg for CDs anymore. Or maybe they make so much money that they can afford to buy tickets to shows and drink not but champagne when they get there. Probably, they're too busy working six jobs, trying to keep the debt collectors from descending upon their every possession.
Well, here's a guy who's keeping the faith: Adrian, an SF resident with a radio show on KZSU called "I Once Was Canadian" and the delightfully named blog, ipickmynose. He may be no Sasha Frere-Jones in the eloquence department (who is?), but his taste in local bands is impeccable (see recent posts about The Mumlers, the Botticellis, Maus Haus, and Lady Genius). He reviews a ton of shows, gives away tickets, and has regular features like "song obsession friday" (tunes you'll love for a week) and "on sale soon" (these bloggers sure don't like capitalization). Best of all, he can poke fun at the whole thing, like in his "generic music blog Halloween post."
