Later On - The Spinto Band
If it seems like the Spinto Band just played town, that's because they did -- twice. Coming back around for the peculiar YouTube Live show at the Herbst Pavilion on Saturday, November 22 (where, supposedly, they are the only live act amongst a plethora of video images), the Brooklyn outfit has also picked up a show at the ultra-tiny Retox Lounge on Friday.
You may remember the Retox as Sublounge, which was a pretty cool dance spot in the early '00s, back when it seemed like techno would take over the world, or at least the Dogpatch neighborhood. (There was even a small warehouse around the corner called the Beta Lounge that put on techno shows and then fed them over the Internets.) Anyway, the airplane seats are gone from Retox's basement, which means about 75 short people can fit in there comfortably, which also means that you'd better get their early if you want to actually see the Spinto Band. And while their appropriately titled New Album isn't as astoundingly catchy as their first, the band's performances are still as effervescent and Muppet-y cute as always.
