Vessel is one of those clubs that has a seriously split personality. On weekends, it's a frightening Marina hellhole, full of moussed-hair ass-monkeys getting over on as many spaghetti-strapped ho-bags as they can. But during the week, it's a totally different scene, oft full of spiky-haired hipsters shaking their pegged pants to lazer bass and tweaked-out remixes of "American Boy." Also, when you descend the steps into the basement club on a school night, you never know if everyone will be wearing tutus -- or no pants whatsoever.
One of the best weekday weeklies is "Infatuation," run by DJ/promoters Rchrd Oh and Sleazemore. They know the electro scene inside and out, and for this pre-Thanksgiving party, they've got local deck jockey Eli Glad and beat manipulator Futuristic Prince, both of whom have killed at "Blow Up" (which happens most Fridays at Rickshaw Stop, and along with "Lights Down Low" and "Frisco Disco" really set the bar for the current wave of electro parties). "Infatuation" has a fun kind of vibe, like it's being thrown by kids whose parents are out of town. Maybe it's how young the crowd is or maybe it's Vessel's layout, with it's multiple layers and speakers built into tables and strange bathroom stalls, but it all feels like a nice and sleazy '70s ski chalet. The free booze -- tonight, it's Jack Daniels -- for the first hour doesn't hurt, either.
