Not only is the Uruguayan native's drumming totally kickass, but he also sings while playing -- and teaching percussion at Folsom State Prison. (Take that, Don Henley.) On Candela's latest disc, Celebrando 20 Anos, Cambon's nine-piece salsa band offers a multitude of non-standard instrumentation (some flute, some accordion) and styles (son, bolero, mambo, cha-cha, merengue, cumbia, and Cuban timba). Hell, they even get a political on "El Agente 87," mixing George Bush and Get Smart samples with what I can only imagine are politically charged lyrics.
