Once the hardest recording jazz-pop band in the greater Chicago area, The Sea and Cake relaxing and breezy though their music may be, took a bit of time recording their latest, Car Alarm. Sub Pop signing Death Vessel opens, along with Twi The Humble Feather.

Free Blood, US Royalty, VHS or BETA (DJ Set)
We're not completely sold on this !!! offshoot, Free Blood, and the recent collection of twelve-inchs, The Singles, released by Rong/ DFA. But recent reports indicate that the duo of John Pugh and Madeline Davy were undeniable in a live setting. At the very least, the room sounds good at 205.

No Neck Blues Band, Electroputas
Iconic, shambolic, brilliant, idiotic, such tags both apply and flutter off of the hydra-headed beast that is the No Neck Blues Band. Once the leading light of New York noise, over the years, their influence has waned considerably as the ensemble remains content with its inscrutability and not putting in a public appearance for ages on end. This is their first show in what feels like forever. Expect the eight-strong ensemble to be keenly focused and maddeningly dissipative in equal measure. With Electroputas.

Suicide, A.R.E. Weapons
One of our favorite things this year is a 10" of Bruce Springsteen covering Suicide's "Dream Baby Dream." How the Boss strips it down even further than the duo of Alan Vega and Martin Rev, we'll never know, but the band has remained lean, hungry, and oblivious to change all these years. Speaking of oblivious, A.R.E. Weapons opens. Outside of a modeling agency, we've never seen hotter girls than at an A.R.E. Weapons show. For that alone, we'll gladly suffer their incompetence.
