Today's inaugural guest is Nicolas Vernhes, producer and owner of Rare Book Room Studio and RBR Records.
If you've bought an indie-rock release in the last decade, there's a chance that Nicolas Vernhes twisted the knobs. From his Greenpoint studio just north of McCarren Park, the Rare Book Room, Vernhes's productions can be heard on titles that are not just varied but downright epochal, such as Cat Power's The Covers Record, Fiery Furnaces's Blueberry Boat, Animal Collective's Here Comes the Indian, and Silver Jews's American Water, to name just a few of the titles he's midwifed. Vernhes has now started his own imprint, Rare Book Room Records, to better document the artists he gets to work with. The first two releases on his label are startling indeed: there's the folk singer Lia Ices as well as the decidedly more icy cabaret duo Palms. Both discs are out this week and tonight, both artists will be playing live at Santo's Party House on Tuesday, September 16th.

- The "Morir Soñando" drink at the little coffee shop over on Marcy Av. and Broadway near the the JMZ train...it's orange juice and cream and soda and they whip it by hand (hope it's still there!).
- Peter Pan Donut Shop on Manhattan Ave. in Greenpoint...very famous with
locals because of the food, the diner look, and of course the outfits! My favorite donut is the glazed.
- Barrio Chino at 253 Broome Street by Orchard...my favorite margaritas and Mexican food...
