On the heels of their headswimming new release, St. Dymphna, Gang Gang Dance's Lizzi Bougatsos divulges her secrets to getting by as an artist/ musician in the city. She is the singer/percussionist of Gang Gang Dance and just finished her album The Proper Sex with Sadie Laska of their vocal/ percussion duo, I.U.D. She is also a visual artist who lives in Chinatown, NYC.

It's warm and feels like a castle in normandy. It's my favorite place to test out wines and european appertifs and digestives...

If I'm ever strolling round I like this store. Sometimes the bins against the wall has some knockout stuff...expect hand me downs/vintage of stuff that you can never afford...margiela...john galliano...halston....YSL!

I know this is a chain but it's near my house and the freshest fish and recipes in town...I go to the one off of the FDR off of Allen Street. I like the pharmacy there, too. They have some good Caribbean-smelling shampoos.
KIELS (East Village)
This is where i go to stock up on samples for tour. They are lightweight and don't agitate your mind/body. I recommend the muscle soak for bathtubs on the road!
WHOLE FOODS (Bowery)
If you know how to shop on a budget, you can go to town on this place. i sit on the top and drink coffee when i need a stroll. the view is priceless. and I'm a product junkie so if you're one of those tester/read ingredients kind of lady this is a fun place to browse. I know it's a chain and believe me my father is a small business owner, but the view makes up for that.
I get my coffee at ROASTING PLANT. It's on Orchard off of Broome Street. They have these beans that go through tubes and it's fabulous. Delicious and sharp-tasting brew.
ST. MARK'S BOOKS
I do dwindle in the poetry section of this one when i have a chance....U can sit down and mellow out. They have alot of good magazines too if you're feeling outta the loop.
SWAY
My boyfriend's been DJing this joint on Sundays for like five years now. I go when he spins...but overall it's fun to watch people dance and bro down. If my friends are in town...I usually find them there.
