It's kind of a lighter week for shows here in Los Angeles, but there's still enough to keep us occupied and interested. The full list is after the jump.
Tuesday:
Vampire Weekend, Abe Vigoda, White Williams @ The Glass House 200 W 2nd St, Pomona, $22.50.
The real reason to check out this show is White Willams. I caught him a few times last year and he was always excellent. His album on Domino is completely underrated and seemed to get lost in the shuffle when it came out. Hopefully this tour will earn him some new fans.
Wednesday:
Tweakbird, Pterodacdudes @ The Silverlake Lounge 2906 Sunset Blvd. $7.
Tweakbird is easily one of the best local bands in Los Angeles right now. Their two man attack with baritone guitar and drums is just an aural slaughter. This is their release party for their new EP on Volcom. Pterodacdudes are from Anaheim and they're a hilarious rock / punk band. This one shouldn't be missed.
Thursday:
Miles Benjamin Anthony Johnson, Black Diamond Heavies @ The Echo 1822 Sunset Blvd $7.
Miles Benjamin Anthony Jonshon's album totally snuck up on me. I know that he's been getting some critical attention lately, but it took me a minute to get into it. Now I love it, and I'm curious to see how he pulls of his raucus folk in the live setting. Should be a good one.
Friday:
The Wedding Present, Earlimart @ The Troubadour 9081 Santa Monica Blvd. $18.
While I'm not entirely sold on the new Wedding Present album, I've been a fan of theirs for too long to miss their show. They haven't had a full fledged American tour in quite some time so they've got a few album's worth of material that I haven't seen before. Hopefully they still bang out some old hits. Earlimart's newest is actually pretty great.
Saturday:
Beck, Spoon, MGMT @ The Hollywood Bowl 2301 N. Highland Ave. $20 - $75
This will be the first time Beck shares the stage with his dad, conductor David Campbell. Campbell will be conducting the LA Philharmonic during Beck's songs. That sounds pretty epic to me. Spoon and MGMT are both able performers so you can expect solid sets from them as well.
Sunday:
Hot Chip, IO Echo @ the Wiltern 3790 Wilshire Blvd $29
Hot Chip are squeezing in two more shows in LA before the year ends. One of their earlier ones was cancelled due to illness, but they're making up for it with a couple big ones on Sunday and Monday at the Wiltern. The LA Hot Chip crowd can be kind of fratty, but the Wiltern is big enough that everyone will be dancing. Can't wait. IO Echo is a local woman making dance pop that's gaining in popularity around here.
