Los Angeles
It's starting to feel like fall a little bit here in the Southland and the cold air brings it with it a few autumnal sounding bands.
Monday
Fleet Foxes @ The El Rey 5515 Wilshire Blvd
After a few times here this year, the Fleet Foxes have quickly grown into one of the bigger venues for indie bands. They started out opening at the Troubdour, headlining the Echo, and now finally headlining the El Rey, which is just shy of 1,000 in its capacity. This the first of their two night stand. Expect lots of indie couples wearing plaid and holding hands.
Tuesday
Okkervil River, Sea Wolf @ The Fonda 6126 Hollywood Blvd
Local indie kids Sea Wolf will be sharing the stage with Okkervil River this Tuesday at the Fonda. Okkervil are touring on a decent new record before they head off to the Austin City Limits festival this weekend.
Wednesday
The New Year, A Weather @ The Echo 1822 Sunset Blvd
I'm really into The New Year record on Touch 'n Go. It's a surprisingly confident slice of indie rock and I'm curious to see what the live show is like. It seems like they fit right in out here in Southern California with their desert-tinged jam. I'm not sure who the other bands are.
Thursday
Mission of Burma, Hank IV @ The Echoplex 1154 Glendale Blvd
Growing up on the east coast and having lived in Boston, I've always had a soft spot for Mission of Burma. They'll be performing Vs. in its entirety, which should be pretty fun and hopefully super loud. It should also be noted that Hank IV is not related to any of the Hank Williams folks.
Friday
The Muslims, Restavrant @ the Troubadour 9081 Santa Monica Blvd
The Muslims are one of those bands that are classic SoCal and always fun to watch. They moved here from San Diego in the spring creating quite a decent buzz about themselves. Their self-released record was one of my favorite this year.
Saturday
Honestly? Saturday night is weak this week. There's nothing I can recommend going to. If something pops up I'll post about it as soon as I hear.
Sunday
MSTRKRFT @ The El Rey 5515 Wilshire Blvd
Since you didn't go out Saturday night, why not close out the weekend with some dancing. For whatever reason LA loves MSTRKRFT, so this will no doubt be packed and crazy. Local guy Steve Aoki will be opening up.
