Monday
El Ten Eleven, 87 Stick Up Kids @ Spaceland
El Ten Eleven have been quietly building their reputation over the last five years here in LA. You might also recognize them as the rhythm section of the Soft Lightes. They're drums and double-neck bass-guitar attack is pretty much unparalleled and the live show is really something to see. 87 Stick Up kids are goofy white guy hip hop that throw back to the Native Tongues era. It's free.
Tuesday
Antony and the Johnsons @ Walt Disney Music Hall 111 South Grand Avenue
This is an odds on favorite to be one of the most beautiful shows of the year. The space at the Walt Disney Hall is exceptional with outstanding acoustics. Antony and the Johnsons have just released a stellar EP and are about to drop a new album in early '09. Tickets start at 30 bucks but you can believe this will be worth it.
Wednesday
Birdmonster, The Rumble Strips @ Spaceland
Birdmonter's new album is something of a grower, but now that I've spent some time with it I'm starting to get it. And regardless of the mellow acoustic flavor of the new album you can bet that the show will only highlight their patented bombastic rock. I've never seen the Rumble Strips but I always liked that video from a few years ago about the bicycle.
Thursday
Tegan & Sara, Girl in A Coma @ Henry Fonda Theatre
Thursday was supposed to be Ladyhawke at Spaceland, but she had visa issues and couldn't make it in. So let's instead take in the first night of Tegan & Sara's five night stand at the Fonda. It's no secret that these two are total guilty pleasures of mine, but I'm not going to make excuses. I just expect to see it once and then go on with my life. You've got five chances to do the same.
Friday
Say Hi (to your mom), Princeton @ The Echo
I caught Princeton at the Eagle Rock fest earlier this month and they were surprisingly good. Their EP sounded like another band who spent too much time with Pinkerton, but they had a much better sound in the live setting. Say Hi (formerly Say Hi to you mom) is always a fun time and they're newest record was a good one.
Saturday
Muslims @ Pehrspace 325 Glendale Blvd.
Pehrspace is a tiny little spot in Historic Filipino town (also known as Hi Fi, or Echo Park Adjacent). It is extremely small and byob. The Muslims moved to LA in the spring after a lifetime in San Diego and they skyrocketed to the top of my favorite local band list. Their self-titled debut is just a great slice of SoCal punk laziness and charm. You can bet that I'll be there.

There's not really anything going on that I know of. Maybe we should just stay inside and watch Mad Men.
