This one isn't exactly music-related but the impact is potentially huge. As of today, the Metro Red Line is running until 3 a.m.. I know to you New York-types this doesn't seem like that big a deal, but to public-transportation-phobic Los Angeles, this is a tremendous step in the right direction.
For some reason, Metro is saying this has something to do with the holidays, but I'm not sure what shopping for Christmas has to do with being out til 3 a.m.. Really, this benefits us drunks who don't want to drive home after the show and don't want to take a non-existent cab ride home (that'll end up costing fifty bucks somehow).
So if you look at the map up there you'll see that the Red Line cuts right through the heart of hollywood into downtown, dipping it's toe into Los Feliz's southern-most tip. And if you get off at the Santa Monica Blvd. stop you can pop over to El Gran Burrito for a bomb-ass late night snack. It's win win really.
If you're going to the Fonda, Cinespace, or Avalon, or Palladium you can get off at the Hollywood and Vine stop. If you want to hit up the Knitting Factory you can get off at the Hollywood and Highland stop. If you want to kick it downtown you can get off at Union Station. That's not super convenient, but it's better than nothing, and with all the filming downtown it's usually pretty hard to park. You might not walk all the way down to Seven Grand but you can certainly hit up the Smell or kick it in Little Tokyo. You can also take the train to the Nokia complex with Staples Center, Club Nokia and the Nokia Theater. The Orpheum is also accessible by train.
How about that. The new hours are in affect every Friday and Saturday from now until the 27th of December (why it's not extended to New Year's is beyond me).
