News: LA to get "Intimate" 2,300 Seat Venue

On November 10th, massive music promoter AEG will unveil it's latest Los Angeles venue, Club Nokia. Not to be confused with the Nokia Theatre next to the Staples Center, Club Nokia is being billed as an "intimate" venue with about 2,300 seats. I guess I'm totally out of touch with the times if two thousand people is considered to be a small show. I'm curious to see what bands they book.
For the opening night, Beck will have the honors.  After that, it's Schwayze and some others. You've probably seen the bus ads around town that say This is not Olympic and Fig. The club will be at the corner of Olympic and Figueroa. That's in in South Park, near the Staples Center and it's part of a larger plan to turn that area into something of a Times Square for LA. It's a slow process, but that area is definitely expanding. Downtown is easily accessible, but you can expect to valet you car at this place. So I guess the ad means that it's not the Olympic and Fig you remember? I don't know.

Here's what AEG has to say about it:

More intimate live performances will be hosted at Club NOKIA. Accommodating over 2,300 guests, Club NOKIA will be the perfect venue for new emerging music acts, cultural shows and will provide excellent space for corporate events and private parties. It is expected that Club NOKIA will host 150 concerts annually - concerts that are currently booked in non-AEG controlled venues in Los Angeles through AEG's live music division, Goldenvoice.

I think that's pretty interesting, that they're looking to steal shows away from other venues. We all know that there's only so many shows to go around (as evidenced by the fact that there's no good shows on Saturday night in the middle fall tour season), so this just seems downright mean.

Anyway, we'll check out the opening night show and see what it's all about.
