Anyone who ever went to the Hollywood Palladium in the last few years (or even decades) remembers it for terrible bathrooms, awful sound, and the worst possible security (well, maybe not the worst). You'd wait in line forever only to be turned away for having too big a belt or the wrong color baseball hat, and then once inside you battled for a spot on the musty old dance floor. Unless it was something absolutely worthwhile, you weren't going to the Palladium. But that'll change come Oct 15th, when none other than Jay-Z plays it.
Live Nation just sank a bunch of money into it, renovating everything from the wall paper to the floors. This is a welcome change, and one that was a year in the making. If there's something that LA needs it's another decent mid-size venue like the Wiltern and more hip hop. Promoters on the east side and downtown seem scared to death of hip hop, so hopefully this Jay -Z show will help usher in some change.
If you remember, former LA resident Morrissey was the last one to play the Palladium back in October of 2007. His ten-night residency was cut to only eight due to issues with the venue, but they were admittedly some pretty great shows.
